I am super late with this post as I'm sure all of you received the May ArtBoxes already, and that post will be up soon inshallah. But May was a really hectic month for me so I couldn't blog at all or even draft something. So I hope the ArtBox marathon my blog will be having with the coming posts will make up for it. And for those who want bookish posts I promise I will not deprive you of those, they'll come inshallah.

مرة تأخرت بالتدوينة ذي لأن الكل الحين استلم صندوق شهر ماي ، وإن شاء الله تشوفون التدوينة ذي قريب. بس ذا الشهر كان شهر محوس ومشغول ولا حتى قدرت اكتب جملتين في مسودة التدوينات. بس هالكم تدوينة الجاية إن شاء الله تعوض نقص الأرت بوكس في حياتكم. أو نقص تدويناتي. وللي يبي تدوينات عن كتب ذي إن شاء الله جايتكم بعد.

يلا نفتح الصندوق

 

I won't pretend this is an organic unboxing, as I've had the chance to experiment and use the tools within this box. Last month's theme was clay, and this month's theme is watercolors.
I AM SO EXCITED !

I always wanted to branch out in watercolors as it is a medium that intrigues me , and my past experiences with it hasn't been anything short of fun. Can you blame me for using capital letters for a sentence of excitement? 

ذي مب أول مرة افتح فيها الصندوق ولا أول مرة أشوف الأدوات ، تأخري لذا الشهر أعطاني وقت أجربهم فيها. الوسط الفني حق الشهر إلي فات كان العجين ، وهذا الشهر الألوان المائية. والحماس مو طبيعي.

الألوان المائية تستهويني مرة وأحبها ، تجاربي معها دايم كانت ممتعة، تلوموني بالحماس؟ 

 

The first thing I see in here is this tiny canvas and stand, if you can't read the size sticker, it's 10x10 cm. It is super adorable, but to be honest canvases aren't really the first things that pop in my head when it comes to watercolors, I tend to closely associated a canvas with acrylic or oil. So this'll be interesting.

I still haven't used it though so I can't give any feedback in regards to canvas and watercolor. Will this unconventional marriage end in a divorce or will they live happily ever after? We shall see.

أول شي أشوفه هو هذا الكانفس الصغير مع ستانده، المقاس 10×10 سم للي ما يقدر يقرأ الستكر، مرة كيوت ولطيف. بس عشان أكون صريحة معكم الألوان المائية مب أول ما يخطر ببالي لما أشوف كانفس، كانفس بالعادة معناها باستعمل أكريلك ولا زيتي، فيمكن تكون تجربة حلوة.
ولكن لسا ما جربتهم فما أقدر أعطي رأيي فيهم من ناحية التجربة ، بس يمكن غرابتهم مع بعض هي إلي تعطي النتيجة المبهرة ؟
نشوف.

 

The second thing, or should I say things since they're the same thing just different colors, are these markers, Faber Castell markers in a fluorescent yellow and a purple. 54F markers, and no they're not water soluble. Before checking I tried making lines and going over them with a waterbrush to see if they flow like watercolor pencils, the purple didn't at all but the yellow one did sort of act like a water soluble medium. You can however use the marker's pigment as ink, just make a few harsh lines on a separate piece of paper or cardboard or maybe a plastic palette, get a waterbrush or a brush with a bit of water on it and it'll act like free ink. I do it with calligraphy pens and as I'm writing this post I think it might work for these markers.
Then again it does make sense for a marker to be here, a non-water soluble one, I mean if you're going to strictly depend on the contents of this box this marker could create the outline of your potential artwork. But it does get affected by water, it isn't resistant like Microns.

الشي الثاني ، الأشياء الثانية  بس لأنهم نفس الشي حطيتهم تحت مسمى واحد هم ذي الماركرز من ماركة فايبر كاستل بلون أصفر فاقع وبنفسجي ، حددت لكم اسم الماركر بالبولد في الكلام الانجليزي. ولا، مو ماركرز مائية ، يعني مو زي الألوان الخشبية المائية تحطون عليها موية وتصير زي الألوان المائية، ذي مو المفروض تحطون عليها موية. بس قبل ما وصلتني المعلومة قلت اكتشف واستكشف بأني استعمل فرشة مائية أو فرشة فيها موية شوي ، البنفسجي ما لعب دور المائي وطبع الخط ولا تحرك أما الأصفر فصار زي المائي شوي ولا لحظت شدة البنفسجي فيه، بس لأن البنفسجي أغمق فعشان كذا. بس من هذه التجربة وخلال كتابتي للتدوينة جتني فكرة، أسويها في أقلام الخط بس ما جربتها في الماركرز ذي وهو إني ارسم خط نوعًا ما قوي على ورقة أو كرتون (مدري إذا تضبط على بلاستيك بس ممكن) وأجيب الفرشة المائية أو الفرشة إلي عليها موية وأمرره على ذا الخط واستعمل حبر القلم زي الحبر الحر وألون فيه  الرسمة.
وإلي فكر زيي إنه وش دخل ماركر مو مائي في صندوق موضوعه أدوات المائي بس لو تفكرون فيها.. لو تقتصرون على محتويات الصندوق بس ذي الماركرز تلعب دور بإنها تحدد الرسمة إلي تبونها ، بس تراها تتأثر بالموية مو ضد الموية زي مايكرون.

 
You see me sneakily mentioning a waterbrush in the previous paragraph? Well that is because its our next item. This is quite possibly what made me jump in excitement, I always wanted to try a waterbrush but I never do pick one up for some reason, my god I sent a message of gratitude in caps to the Artbox team when I saw it and I have been playing with it loads ever since.
For those who are unfamiliar with what a waterbrush is, its basically a plastic brush with a compartment where you add water and when you use it the water comes out of the bristles ridding you of the need to dip the brush in water like it is commonly done with watercolor.
Although I still think dipping a brush in water is a useful technique.

شفتوا كيف جبت طاري الفرشة المائية بكل سرية في القطعة إلي قبل؟ وهذا لأنه برجع أجيب طاريها هنا وأخليها محور الحديث، ما تتخيلون حماسي لما شفتها ! من أول وأنا ودي أجرب فرشة مائية بس دايم أعديها ولا اشتري وحدة ، فلما شفتها هنا نطيت من الحماس وارسلت رسالة شكر تضحك لأرت بوكس لما شفتها، وعاد ما تركتها من يومكم.
للي ما يعرف وش هي الفرشة المائية، هي فرشة فيها مكان تحط فيه موية وتطلع من الشعيرات وهي مفيدة للتعامل مع الألوان المائية بدال ما تحطون الفرشة في كأس موية منفصل وتلونون، لكن ما أحس هالحركة التقليدية يستغنى عنها.

 
After this comes these two cool toned watercolor pencils from a brand called Corot (they have a number on them, 7728, both of them that's why I know its not the color code or something) . One's a seafoam green and the other is a dark green. They are nice quality with good color payoff and nice solubility when it comes to them acting as watercolors. Generally, nice pencils.

بعدها يجون هالقلمين المائيين من ماركة كوروت ورقمهم 7728 ، وأقول رقمهم لأنه عليهم الاثنين نفس الرقم (كنت أحسبه رقم اللون بس الرقم متطابق على القلمين فما اتوقع) واحد منهم أخضر فاتح مايل على الزرقة والثاني أخضر غامق. الأقلام حلوة ، جودتها كويسة حيث إنه اللون قوي ولما يجي لدورهم كلون مائي حلوين بعد. بشكل عام تجربة حلوة.

 
Finally we have these two, the watercolor tube of red and the watercolor pan of red. Let's start with the tube.
Now I do not know what brand this is, but according to Artbox this is called Chinese ink. Don't let the ink in the name fool you, it is a watercolor. But it is more pigmented and more of a liquid compared to regular tube watercolors. I did notice that in comparison with the tube watercolors I have. Think of it as the halfway mark between ink and watercolors. The color is a bright red that leans towards coral.

وأخيرًا وليس آخرًا عندي شكلين ثانيين من الألوان المائية ، الأنبوب والتقليدي (مدري وش اسمه الفعلي بس ما عرفت وش اسميه)
ونبدأ بالأنبوبة الصغيرة ذي (ما اتوقع اسمه أنبوب بس ما لقيت له اسم ثاني) . ما أعرف الماركة لكن استنادًا على كلام أرت بوكس هذا حبر صيني. تراه لون مائي ، لا تخلون الاسم يخدعكم. ولكن هو يعتبر سائل أكثر وصبغته أقوى، يعني تقدرون تقولون بين المائي والحبر. ومقارنة بألواني المائية هو صدق أسيل وأقوى صبغة.
اللون أحمر زي ما قلت ونوعًا ما فاقع.

The other form we have here is the pan, it is from the brand watercolor confections and the color I have here is no.24. When I first saw the color it reminded me of tomato paste for some reason, although having used this changed my mind, this is best described as a "blood" color. It really reminds me of blood despite it being more brown. If I would've picked one form of watercolors to dominate this box it'd be this one, the pan. I tried watercolor pencils and tubes quite a lot (don't get me wrong, I love them both and there is still a whole world I didn't explore with them), yet the pan intrigues me and I did enjoy my time experimenting with it. I had control with the color and it was of nice quality so definitely keeping my eyes out for this brand, and this particular type of watercolor (koi, here I come) .

النوع الثاني من الألوان المائية هو التقليدي، من ماركة سويت لها تحديد في الكلام الانجليزي وبعد رقم اللون إلي كان في صندوقي (24) . أول ما شفت اللون ذكرني بمعجون الطماطم لسبب أو آخر، بس من يوم ما استعملته غيرت رأيي على طول، الوصف الأمثل هو إنه "لون الدم" . مرة يذكرني بالدم في أكثر من ناحية مع إنه ممكن تجادل إنه يميل على بني أكثر من الدم.
إذا كان بيدي اختار شكل من أشكال الألوان المائية بإنه يطغى على الصندوق كان اخترت التقليدية، استعملت الألوان الخشبية المائية والأنابيب كثير (أحبهم لا تفهموني غلط ولسا فيهم عالم ما اكتشفته) بس خبرتي مع التقليدية صفر. واستمتعت مرة بتجربتها. كان لي تحكم في اللون في أكثر من ناحية معها ، وجودة الماركة مرة حلوة. جذبت انتباهي، أو بالأحرى جذبوا لأنه الوسط والماركة كلهم جذبوني.

 

So that's it for the tools, but not the box.
In this box, Artbox decided to include the lovely surprise of stickers!
I got Vermeer's "the girl with the pearl earring" and the Artbox logo. I know all boxes have the Artbox logo sticker, yet the painting one changes so please do share what you got with me.
And as you can see, I stuck my painting sticker on my journal/sketchbook.. It's a mess but anyways, stuck that baby on it.

هذا كله للأدوات ، بس فيه إضافات حلوة.
وهي إنه أرت بوكس قرروا يضيفون لنا مفاجأة الستيكرز.
الستيكرز إلي جوني هم لوحة فيرمير "الفتاة ذات القرط اللؤلؤي" (شكرًا ويكيبيديا) وشعار أرت بوكس. أنا أعرف إنه كل الصناديق كان فيها ستيكرة الشعار بس اللوحة اختلفت فشاركوني وش جاكم.
حطيت ستكرة اللوحة على دفتري زي ما تقدرون تشوفون في الصورة.

 

To sum this all up, I cannot forget the artist of the month. Which is @artistdana (you can find her on instagram if you click her name)
This artwork is so amazing! I loved the mail with the astronaut on it, so symbolic.. Sending a message of art to the universe perhaps?

Sarah J Maas reference, sorry this cannot be a solely art blogpost I have to get bookish, although I haven't gotten to this series by her yet. Dana's artwork reminded me of this, it popped up immediately in my head as a message to the cosmos.

وفي الختام ما أقدر أنسى إني أوريكم فنانة الشهر دانة المبدعة ! اضغطوا على اسمها ويوديكم لصفحتها في الانستجرام,
ما شاء الله العمل مرة حلو، الله يوفقها ويسعدها. رائد الفضاء على رسالة أحسها رمزية مرة ولها معنى عميق بس عشان أطبق المعنى على أرت بوكس يمكن تكون رسائلنا الفنية للكون.

بس الاقتباس إلي حددته (وهو من سلسلة كتب انجليزية من كاتبة قرأت لها أعمال بس مو إلي منه هذا الاقتباس، ما تكون مدونة كتب وفن إذا ما اجتمعوا العنصرين ولو مرة في التدوينة) حسيته يليق كمطلع رسالة للكون، شي يمشي مع موضوع العمل.

I did tell you in my first ArtBox unboxing (the previous one, the march one.. Those are some synonyms for you) I was going to use the next ArtBox to store more paints.
Well..
أنا قلت لكم في التدوينة إلي فاتت إلي سويتها عند صندوق أرت بوكس إني بصير استعمل الصندوق الجاي عشان أخزن فيه ألواني الزايدة زي ما سويت بالأول.
و زي ما تشوفون..

 

And I do think this'll continue for the next ArtBoxes, which is a good thing because reusing is better than trashing, especially in an environmental epidemic we should take steps to be environmentally conscious. Plus how can you trash a beauty like this one?

وأحس هالحركة بتستمر مع الصناديق الجاية إن شاء الله، وهو شي حلو بالعكس لأن إعادة التدوير والاستخدام أزين من إني مجرد أرميه، خصوصًا مع المشاكل البيئية الصادرة عن حياتنا المدنية (مو لازم مدنية بس نمطنا البيئي الصناعي) لازم نبدأ ننتبه لاستهلاكنا للموارد وكيف ممكن نفيد البيئة بنمطنا بدال ما نضرها ، وغير كذا كيف ممكن ترمون شي حلو زي ذا.

That's a belated wrap for the April Artbox, hopefully the May one is going to be up soon.. With a surprise for you all, I'm sure you've seen it on social media (mine at least) but in case you haven't... Wait for my blogpost.
 Now you'll all either play the waiting game or dig around until you find what I mean, shouldn't be too hard but why ruin the surprise? Haha, I hope it'll be worth both of those. And I am definitely hoping you'll love it.
