Ahhh, the end of exams. Also synonymous with the beginning of summer and freedom. But this time with a page flipped.. YES! I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL! 

Some posts regarding that will come your way, but I have to get this own up since its long overdue. Its basically an overview of what I did with my ArtBox materials. 

الحمد لله تنتهي الاختبارات وتبدأ الإجازة ويلحقها الشعور بالراحة ، الله يديمها عليكم كلكم وإن شاء الله تكون نتائجكم تبشر بالخير. والخريجات زيي ، الله يبشركم بالقبول في الجامعة الي تبونها بالقسم إلي تبونه. وعلى طاري التخرج قاعدة أحاول أطلع تدوينات حوله وجتني كم فكرة، ترقبوها. 

المهم نرجع لموضوعنا، هو زي مراجعة أو نتائج لاستعمالي لأدوات صندوق آرت بوكس. 

 

First lets start with the Acrylic colors, I mentioned in my previous post that I only used the Apricot, and to the moment I'm writing this post I did only use the Apricot. It is on the sheer side, I wouldn't have picked up a color of this opacity but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried to use it for my Van Gogh inspired Hogwarts landscape (a request from my mother, the only person I take requests from) I used it for the mountain as you can see. I started with a sheer coat which I made a negative reaction towards, yet I did decide to work with it since it is the best color I had for this. I built it up, kept it sheer in places, and I was extremely happy with the result. Like I said I wouldn't have picked a sheer color up, but this made me excited to try the Turquoise. And to pick up similar colors. 

أولًا خلنا نبدأ بألوان الأكريلك ، آخر تدوينة قلت لكم إني ما جربت غير البرتقالي، وما أزال ما جربت غير البرتقالي. لاحظت إنه الألوان مايلة للشفافية، قوتها مو القوة إلي انجذب لها عند اختياري للألوان. الحين طالع كأني أذمها بس من تجربتي للون في لوحة قصر هوقورتس المستوحاة من طريقة فان جوخ (طلب أمي ، الوحيدة إلي آخذ منها طلبات) قدرت هذه الجهة من الألوان. يعني دايم كنت أفكر شلون ممكن الألوان المايلة للشفافية هذه تستعمل؟ بس بداية استعمالي للون في اللوحة ما كانت إيجابية، صدمتي كانت سلبية إنه خفيف بس ضحيت بالصبغة عشان الدرجة لأنها كانت انسب شي. زدت طبقات في أماكن وتركتها خفيفة في غيرها والنتيجة اعجبتني! يعني اعطتني تأثير ما تخيلته ومرة مرة اعجبني الحمد لله. زي ما قلت ما كنت أبد أفكر بالألوان إلي صبغتها خفيفة بشي يسوى أو شي ذا جودة بس لما استعملتها في لوحتي بهرتني، بس جربوا. الحين متحمسة أجرب درجات ثانية من الألوان الخفيفة بطرق مختلفة.

 

The rest is more or less compiled in one artwork (technically two) , that inspired the title of this post. So I was caught off guard by the inclusion of clay. But I had this idea to make a stamp from it. With that I proceeded to knead the clay. Twist it, pinch it, every move in the book to get this sort of wax seal stamp shape. 

الباقي مجموع في عمل واحد (ينقال عنه عملين) إلي هم الإلهام لعنوان التدوينة. وجود العجينة كان تحدي بالنسبة لي، بس جتني فكرة.. ختم! وبعدها بديت أعجن ، أعفص ، كل شي ممكن تسوونه بعجين يمكن أكون سويته عشان أوصل لشكل يشبه الختم إلي يستعمل مع الشمع. 

 

I had a hard time settling on the shape I wanted my stamp to .. well.. stamp? I ended up going with the glasses and scar symbol from the Harry Potter franchise (this post is getting all potterhead on the readers, haha) I first tried to carve in on the bottom of the base of the stamp. But it backfired and I made a mistake with the design that took too much to fix so I ended up making a circular platform and carved the design into it. I struggled making the platform the right thickness but it worked out well in the end. 

I used the ball-tip tool to refine the edges of the shape I carved. I intially carved with it but it wasn't as precise as I wanted but it refined it so nicely. 

ترددت كثير في الشكل إلي أبي الختم يطبعه، بس في النهاية قررت إنه بيكون علامة هاري بوتر حقت النظارات والجرح (مرة قمت عليكم بهاري بوتر بذي التدوينة) أول شي جربت أحفر الشكل على طول على قاعدة الشكل بس ما ضبطت وقعدت طويل أحاول أعدله فقررت أسوي قاعدة دائرية منفصلة وأحفر عليها الشكل، الحمد لله طلع كل شي كويس. استعملت الأداة إلي عندها طرف كوري عشان ارتب الشكل المحفور فيه و"أعززه"  (أزيد الحفرة)

Oh, and a tip for clay is to keep water beside you and use it to refine the shape and close the gaps. The gaps and cracks in any clay shape you make is inevitable, this aids in closing those and making it as smooth as possible. Just dip your finger in water and run it on those areas. I learned that back in middle school or elementary when we used to work with clay like nobody does, I think I made every shape under the sun (bad expression, quite far actually but you get my point.. We made a lot of stuff).

I think what made me have fun with the clay this time was the nostalgic factor it had, its just been so long since the art classes with clay it feels fun to go back to it. 

اي صح، نصيحة للي يتعامل مع العجين الي من هالنوع إنه تخلون موية جنبكم عشان تعدلون الكسرات في الشكل إلي تسوونه و"الشوائب" لأنه ما في شكل يسلم منه . خذو باصبعكم الموية ومروا على المناطق. تعلمتها بالمتوسط أو الابتدائي يوم كانت حصص
الفنية تعتمد عليه مرة. اتوقع هذا السبب الي حمسني للتعامل مع العجين مرة ثانية، ذاك الشعور بالحنين والذكريات..

 

Ok so I left the clay shapes to dry and then stuck the platform to the base with glue (craft glue, nothing too fancy lol) when the shapes were halfway dried. 

تركتهم ينشفون، بس قبل ما ينشفون تمامًا لصقت الدائرة إلي عليها الشكل إلي أبيه مع قاعدة شكل الختم بغراء الخشب (مو أزين شي بالدنيا بس وفى بالغرض) وما رجعت لهم لين ما كملوا ينشفون.

Now, we get to the moment of truth. The results of my little stamp. I wanted to test it out then decorate and color the actual shape.

Can you guess the results of this experiment?

Yeah, my desired shape didn't appear. I tried with ink, and with watercolor. I painted those two precisely on the stamp's base and I also tried just dipping it in and stamping.. None worked.

I was left fairly disappointed, until I saw the results of my constant tests resemble coffee cup rings on the page, I tried stamping with that intention and I quite liked the effect of the small-sized coffee cup ring on the page, I decided to continue developing artwork on that same test page.

الحين، نجي للحظة الحقيقة، نتائج الختم. قلت خليني أجربه بعدين ألون نفس الشكل وأعدله وكل ذا.. بس أول أسوي ختم تجربة.

والتجربة لم تتم بنجاح، ما يطلع الشكل إلي حفرته. جربت حبر وألوان مائية، جربت ألون القاعدة بدقة وجربت بس أحطها باللون وأطبع ولا ضبط. مرة خاب أملي.

بس الصراحة عجبني الشكل إلي نتج من التجارب، شكلها كان يشبه العلامة إلي تنتج من كوب القهوة على القاعدة إلي انحط عليها. فقررت أطور على ورقة التجربة ذي بعمل في رأسي.

Since it resembled coffee cup rings I decided to make something relating to coffee, and since my favourite thing to draw are hands I decided to add that as well.

So the concept was to feature different types of coffee with hands holding them. The middle hand is holding a mug while the one on the left has a plastic cup with a straw that houses iced coffee and the one on the right has a paper cup that has hot coffee. I started with a sketch then I detailed with the rest of the tools, I didn't erase the sketch marks afterwards though I left them to add something to the drawing and I even used it to further add detail. 

I used Microns to line the hands and the cups, I used Ikea markers to color in large areas of black. I used knockoff Windsor and Newton watercolors for the terracotta rings and black Faber-Castell ink for the black ones.

I happened to use the brush that came with March's Artbox for the tea stains (should be coffee but all I had was black tea) I happen to find it ideal for water based work, but ArtBox clarified that its meant to be used to smooth clay works.. woops.

ولأن الطبعات شابهت علامات كوب القهوة بديت ارسم شي له علاقة بالقهوة، وبما إنه أكثر شي استمتع لما ارسمه هو الأيدي ضفته للرسمة. اليد إلي بالوسط معها كوب قهوة  وإلي باليسار معها كأس بلاستيك فيه قهوة بالثلج وإلي باليمين معها كوب ورقي فيه قهوة حارة. بديت بسكتش بالرصاص مبدئي على خلفية الطبعات (سكتش للأيدي، الطبعات كانت تجربة للختم الي ما ضبط) واستعملت أقلام ميكرون للتحبير، قلم من إيكيا أسود (ماركر) عشان المناطق السودة الكبيرة، وألوان ويندسر أند نيوتن المائية (تقليد) + حبر سائل من فايبر كاستل لعلامات كوب القهوة (طبعتها بالختم) واستعملت الفرشة إلي جت مع الصندوق لبقعة الشاي وإي اعتق الورقة شوي ، بس بعدين اكتشفت الفرشة عشان العجين إني أخليه سلس وكل ذا. عاد.. حبيتها للأشياء إلي أساسها مائي.

I think that's all for ArtBox for now, I had a lot of fun using the tools and will hopefully continue to utilise the tools and have fun with them down the line. Although I don't think I'll be using clay as much, it sure is nice to go back to it and experiment with it. 

اعتقد هذا كل شي لأرت بوكس، مرة استانست باستعمال الأدوات وإن شاء الله مب آخر مرة استعملهم. مع إنه ما اتوقع استعمل العجين كثير إلا إنه أحب أرجع له وأجرب فيه.
